Dr. Sonali (Allie) Sharma is a Cornell-trained board-certified Adult Psychiatrist, a Co-Founder and Chief Medical Officer of Being Health and has had a private practice in New York City since 2008. She founded Being Health in 2023 to offer a new approach to mental health care with an integrated care model that is grounded in the latest evidence, guided by caring clinicians and personalized to patient’s needs.
In addition to private practice, Dr. Sharma has worked in a variety of settings including Emergency Psychiatry and Student Mental Health at Columbia University, within the homeless population of NYC, as well as at a systems level in Global Mental Health integrating mental health into primary care, as a World Health Organization consultant, in a public hospital in the Bronx overseeing acute emergency services, within a Bronx collaborative care program treating depression and anxiety, running a city program in mental health in high need communities, and more recently in a health technology company.
She completed her training in Psychiatry at UCSF (internship) and Payne Whitney Clinic (residency) at Weill Cornell / NYPH. She holds a Medical Degree from Weill Cornell Medical College of Cornell University and a Master’s degree in Social Policy and Planning from the London School of Economics.

She focuses on crisis management, depression, anxiety, mood disorders, and stress through a trauma-informed lens. She is also a menopause expert and an advisor for Evernow and sees patients across the reproductive life cycle, and especially in the perimenopausal years.

What do you find most interesting about Being Health's integrated care model?
At Being Health, we are expanding the mental health toolkit by combining under one roof things that are tried and tested with things that are new and novel. Our integrated care model allows for enhanced provider collaboration across disciplines, the potential for improved outcomes, and a better patient experience to be able to focus on mind and body within one system of care.
What's the most memorable trip you've ever taken?
One of my favorite trips hands down was to Bhutan in 2006 where we hiked in the Himalayas to stunning temples and historical sites as we immersed ourselves in the culture of the Bhutanese.
